Catalogue of French mountain passes "le Chauvot
10,00 €
History
The desire to create and distribute a list of French mountain passes has existed since the Confrérie des Cent Cols was founded in 1972. As early as the first issue of the Confrérie's magazine (1973), the list of passes in the Northern Alps was drawn up by Marcel Bioud from Coublevie (Isère). In 1976, thanks to the help and expertise of many members of the "Cent Cols", the first list of road passes in France (1,368 passes identified) was published.
In 1981 Robert and Monique Chauvot published the 1er Cols de France catalogue - 7336 passes including 1531 road passes.
This catalogue can be downloaded free of charge by club members from the download page.

Description
Since 1994, the Confrérie has taken over and has itself published: "8500 Cols France" the famous "Bible Chauvot" with 2 editions in 1994 and 1999.
This enormous amount of work was made possible thanks to information gathered from many members of the Confrérie des Cent Cols, and in particular from those whom we have named as collaborators.
A third edition of this guide, eagerly awaited by many mountain bikers, was published in 2002 under the title "Catalogue des Cols de France".
Contributors to these first printed works included Jean-Paul Bibes, Michel de Brebisson, Alain Gillodes, Michel Jeay, Philippe Meyer, Jean Perdoux, Nicole Poty, René Poty, François Rieu, Marc Liaudon, Henri Dusseau and Philippe Carrez.
Today (2020), the Catalogue des Cols de France is still regularly maintained by a group of experts, with a new edition every year. The "France Working Group" currently comprises Alain Brault, Philippe Carrez, Jean-Michel Clausse, Jean-François Plantard and Guy Ruffié. In addition to their own work, they obviously take into account any comments or observations made by members of the confrérie.
Enjoy the route, with its many beautiful passes.
The catalogue contains more than 11,000 wines and covers wines from mainland France (mainland + Corsica) as well as from the French overseas departments and regions (DROM-COM).
Computer version
A downloadable version of the catalogue is available at download page. The computer version gives 24 items of information for each pass: name(s), altitude, map coordinates, links to interactive maps, access to the pass, difficulty index, GPS coordinates, inclusion in the TOPO Guides and the club's Randonnées Permanentes, etc.
The catalogue presentation document provides full details of its contents. You can read it here here.
Each year, an update is published in the Club des Cent Cols magazine and on this website under the heading Additives. If you have added personal columns to your catalogue, you can use a " update tool "This allows you to incorporate the year's changes into your old edition without losing your personal columns.
Print version
The paper version has been replaced by a PDF version, which is also available to non-members.
