Daniel passed away on 6 September 2024 after a long illness on the eve of the 'La Tour Matagrin' mountain bike race, of which he had been the kingpin since its inception. He therefore missed the 34th edition. Daniel said he would be forgotten, but that's impossible.
Daniel joined the Squadra For\u00e9zienne in 1983 and very quickly stood out for his climbing skills.
We've travelled so many roads together in the region, including Easter weekends in Provence, where he mapped out routes for us to climb, with mountain passes aplenty.
With his cardboard GPS containing all the notes for the ride, he guided us along the roads of the Alps, the Pyrenees, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and even Slovenia as we crossed the Alps from Thonon to Trieste via the famous Stelvio - some unforgettable memories.

There were also numerous participations in Clermont-Aurillac-Clermont and many other long-distance rides.
We won't forget his devastating pedal stroke as soon as the road rose, the quality of his writing when he brilliantly captured the essence of a group outing with the thoughtfulness to always slip in a kind word for one or the other.
He was the driving force behind the introduction of the long-distance brevets (200-300-400-600km), which enable riders to qualify for Paris-Brest-Paris.
Daniel had 7 Paris-Brest-Paris to your credit, and he would have liked to add one more with your brother JJ, but unfortunately the illness had already set in. It was a regret for him not to have been able to complete this challenge with Jean Jacques.
The list is too long to enumerate all the passes he has climbed, and he was also a member of the hundred passes club.
He also excelled at mountain walking, climbing Mont Blanc (4807m), Toubkal (4167m) in Morocco and Damavand (5600m) in Iran.
Daniel had been a member of the Squadra For\u00e9zienne board for many years.
Daniel wanted to end his life at home in an environment he loved, surrounded by his family and friends, and to see his garden one last time.
The famous Bianchi bicycle brand has lost a loyal representative and the Squadra has lost a discreet, modest but highly effective man.
