With this simple tool, you can create one or more layers with all the passes you want for your Garmin GPS. The layer will be a transparent \"point cloud\" map that will be superimposed on your GPS map.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prerequisites:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have one or more GPX files containing the names and coordinates of the passes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Install Java version 6 or higher. On 64-bit Windows, IMGfromGPX is a 32-bit program, so you need to install the 32-bit version of Java. <a href=\"http:\/\/java.com\/en\/download\/manual.jsp#win\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Here<\/a>\u00a0. For <a href=\"http:\/\/java.com\/en\/download\/manual.jsp#mac\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MAC is here<\/a>\u00a0.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Installing the software <a href=\"http:\/\/www.javawa.nl\/imgfromgpx_en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\"IMGfromGPX<\/a> \u00a0available on Javawa for PC or MAC.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create a folder containing the GPX files concerned (\"Cols Cyclable\" in this example).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Nothing else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After installation, when you open the software you see the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"237\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/calques01.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-81420\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You need to fill in the Map Type Up in Numbers field so as not to conflict with the IDs used by all the Garmin maps or for Garmin that you own. I'm sticking to the 654XX sequence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Then enter the name of the map on your computer. This is the name that BaseCamp and\/or MapSource will use. Next, enter the name of the \"device\" (GPS). Use the same name as on the computer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drag your GPX files into the \"GPX file\" column.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"236\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/calques02.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-81421\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The \"Dots\" column shows the number of passes in the file.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We're now going to specify the POI style. Geographic Points seems an appropriate choice. On the line with the gpx file, click in the \"POI Style\" column.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"235\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/calques03.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-81422\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, in the 'Poi sub style' column, choose the symbol that will represent the pass. I've chosen 'Peak (6616)' in this example, but I personally use the small 'Nature Reserve' square.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"221\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/calques04.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-81423\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You've got your files, your style and your symbol, now you just need to create the map by activating \"create map\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You specify the target folder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"71\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/calques05.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-81424\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Creation follows on from creation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"235\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/calques06.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-81425\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I'm on a MAC and installing the card is different from installing it on a PC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Cols Cyclables folder we have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"140\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/calques07.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-81426\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I recommend renaming the gmapsupp.img file to Layer.img. This avoids overwriting a gmapsupp.img file that may already be on your GPS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"125\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/calques08.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-81427\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>To install in BaseCamp on MAC, double-click on the .gmap file<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you open BaseCamp you get.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The last card installed is automatically active:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"449\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/calques09.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-81428\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For PC, let's go back to the target folder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have a .reg folder, in this case Layer_65422.reg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simply click \"install.cmd\" to install the map for MapSource.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"131\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/calques10.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-81429\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On the GPS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simply copy the file layer\/gmapsupp.img into the Garmin folder on your GPS or SD card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use the map manager to check that the Layer map is active.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on your GPS, you may need to adjust the map display settings so that the points only appear at the zoom level you require.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In our example, the IMG file only weighs 630kb for 8000 passes, so its presence will not interfere with the operation of your GPS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use this \"layer\" with custom POIs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A trace\/map of the passes you've crossed can be useful, but don't forget to change your symbols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The POI search tool on your GPS can find POIs on your map.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marcel Goll<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/prs.cyclorando.csibm.fr\/\">http:\/\/prs.cyclorando.csibm.fr<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pendant longtemps, Mario a propos\u00e9 pour les Cents Cols des calques pour les cartes papier.
