Voil\u00e0 6 mois que chaque jour je consulte les cartes, je trace, je modifie, je consulte ma documentation. 6 mois que je pr\u00e9pare ce voyage. 6 longs mois \u00e0 attendre, \u00e0 r\u00eaver de ce que sera cette nouvelle aventure sur mon v\u00e9lo. On a coutume de dire, qu\u2019un voyage se vit avant, pendant et apr\u00e8s. Peut-\u00eatre, mais je pr\u00e9f\u00e8re et de loin la phase qui d\u00e9marre aujourd\u2019hui&nbsp;!&#8230; et aujourd\u2019hui c\u2019est reparti pour 12 \u00e9tapes alpestres&nbsp;!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What a joy it is to hang your panniers on your bike, what a joy it is to get on your bike, set your computer to zero, point to your logbook and say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>-\" This time I'm gone!...\"<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3<sup>th<\/sup> part of my great Alpine Adventure, the Thonon-Antibes Alpine Tour was the high point of my 2002 season. To tell you the truth, it was the 3<sup>th<\/sup> attempt. The first one in 1988 failed in Brian\u00e7on, the fatigue, the length of the stages, my morale at zero, I gave up dead in the soul (a youthful error no doubt).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second attempt, which didn't even see the light of day on the bike but just in my head and on paper (see my report on <a href=\"file:\/\/\/E:\/Documents\/Mes%20sites%20Web\/Pour%20site%20Cent%20Cols\/pour%20nouveau%20site\/Voyages\/thonon-antibes\/thonon-antibes.htm\">Thonon-Antibes<\/a> through the Pre-Alps). But this year I'm determined to go all the way and cross the Alps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">departure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"451\" height=\"304\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image001.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-84819\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The 1<sup>i\u00e8re<\/sup> \u00e9tape Thonon-Meg\u00e9ve longue de 109&nbsp;km se fera dans un d\u00e9cor non pas familier mais dans un d\u00e9cor que je connais, les cols des Moise, de Terramont, de Jambaz me rappellent le r\u00e9cent brevet du Chablais r\u00e9alis\u00e9 en juin avec 2 amis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La premi\u00e8re difficult\u00e9 de la journ\u00e9e c\u2019est le col de la Ramaz, il me para\u00eet interminable, je n\u2019ai pas la grande forme. Je d\u00e9jeune au Praz de Lys, l\u00e0 je fais l\u2019erreur de manger en terrasse, il fait froid, je suis gel\u00e9. La descente du terrible col de Savoli\u00e8re n\u2019est pas faite pour me r\u00e9chauffer. Il est 17&nbsp;h&nbsp;30\u2019 quand j\u2019arrive \u00e0 Meg\u00e8ve, le temps se g\u00e2te s\u00e9rieusement et le ciel se d\u00e9cha\u00eene soudainement, orage et pluie violente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>It's so good to be back in the hotel tonight!<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"449\" height=\"303\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image003.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-84821\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Capricious weather<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For the second stage I had planned to go from Meg\u00e8ve to Bonneval\/Arc, but the weather would decide otherwise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le d\u00e9part est matinal 6&nbsp;h&nbsp;15\u2019, apr\u00e8s un bon petit d\u00e9jeuner pris dans ma chambre, je quitte le <em>\u00ab Chalet de l\u2019Ancolie \u00bb<\/em> nice mountain hotel. It's not raining yet, but it will soon be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La mont\u00e9e du col des Saisies se fera au sec, les 12&nbsp;km d\u2019ascension se font dans le calme du matin, pas de bruit, juste le cliquetis de mon v\u00e9lo, c\u2019est agr\u00e9able. Par contre la descente f\u00fbt tout autre, \u00e0 peine amorc\u00e9e que la pluie fait son apparition, bient\u00f4t suivie de l\u2019orage, je m\u2019arr\u00eate pour me v\u00eatir \u00ab anti pluie \u00bb traduisez le goretex, les surchaussures, les jambi\u00e8res, bref tenue d\u2019hiver de rigueur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Je petit d\u00e9jeune \u00e0 Beaufort, les clients du bistrot sont plein de compassion, la chaleur qui r\u00e8gne dans cet endroit me fait le plus grand bien, je le quitte \u00e0 regret. La mont\u00e9e sur Ar\u00eaches se d\u00e9roule sous la pluie, idem pour le col du Pr\u00e9, ajoutez une pente s\u00e9v\u00e8re (10 % pendant 7&nbsp;km). Je suis heureux de voir la pancarte du sommet&nbsp;!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"451\" height=\"304\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image007.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-84822\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u00e9g\u00e8re descente sur le col de Meraillet puis j\u2019attaque le superbe col du Cormet de Roselend (1968&nbsp;m) sans pluie, mais il fait tr\u00e8s froid. Apr\u00e8s la rituelle photo souvenir devant le panneau du col, j\u2019aborde la grande descente sur Bourg st Maurice. 20&nbsp;km de glissade, un r\u00e9gal quand il fait chaud, mais l\u00e0 j\u2019ai peine \u00e0 serrer mes freins, mes doigts engourdis m\u2019obligent \u00e0 une extr\u00eame vigilance. C\u2019est transi de froid que j\u2019arrive \u00e0 Bourg st Maurice, il est pass\u00e9 13 heures. Il faut manger et chaud de pr\u00e9f\u00e9rence. Apr\u00e8s quelques h\u00e9sitations je me dirige vers un snack. J\u2019ai \u00e0 peine pos\u00e9 mon v\u00e9lo devant la vitrine qu\u2019un autre cyclo harnach\u00e9 lui aussi de sacoches et montant une superbe randonneuse Berthoud arrive \u00e0 mes c\u00f4t\u00e9s. Comme moi il est gel\u00e9, transi, il n\u2019a qu\u2019une h\u00e2te manger et se r\u00e9chauffer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"448\" height=\"303\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image005.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-84823\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I explain where I'm from, and he tells me that he started this morning, and that he's mainly looking for the BPFs because he's finishing this year's grand Brevet de Cyclotourisme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notre homme se pr\u00e9nomme Roger, le physique tr\u00e8s sympathique. Tout de suite j\u2019ai senti que c\u2019\u00e9tait un vrai, un pur randonneur comme je les aime. Install\u00e9s comme de vieux amis \u00e0 la table du restaurant, nous allons \u00ab papoter \u00bb ainsi pendant une bonne heure, Roger m\u2019expliquant son voyage et moi le mien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The climb to Val d'Is\u00e8re<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We shared the same route for a while, and it was together that we tackled the day's major difficulty, the climb to Val d'Is\u00e8re.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The weather hasn't improved, it's still raining, but nonetheless I'm in good shape. Roger is more reserved, and he's quick to tell me, as he usually does in these cases:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>-\"  Go on, don't wait for me, I'll see you up there!\"<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I know from experience that in these cases, waiting is not the best thing. Roger, like me, is a loner, he climbs at his own pace, and having my wheel in his sights bothers him, just as it does me when I'm in the opposite situation. I listen to Roger, I don't wait for him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>31&nbsp;km s\u00e9parent Bourg St Maurice de Val d\u2019Is\u00e8re, 31&nbsp;km de mont\u00e9e, facile au d\u00e9but et de plus en plus pentu \u00e0 la fin. Mais la pente c\u2019est rien, c\u2019est la tasse de th\u00e9 du randonneur en montagne, c\u2019est la raison de notre pr\u00e9sence ici, par contre les voitures, les camions, les motos, les autocars, l\u00e0 mon ami, dans la mont\u00e9e de Val d\u2019Is\u00e8re c\u2019est quelque chose. Je n\u2019ai pas souvenir en 20 ans de v\u00e9lo d\u2019avoir fait une route aussi p\u00e9nible. Plus on s\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve plus il fait froid plus il pleut, un m\u00e9lange de neige fondue et de pluie, pouah&nbsp;!\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les derniers kilom\u00e8tres sont une v\u00e9ritable horreur&nbsp;? Je connaissais la route pour l\u2019avoir d\u00e9j\u00e0 faite en voiture et \u00e0 v\u00e9lo (randonn\u00e9e de l\u2019Iseran en 1988), aussi je savais qu\u2019a la fin j\u2019allais rencontrer les tunnels. Une fois pass\u00e9 le fameux barrage de Tignes, \u00e7a commence et pour couronner le tout des travaux routiers se m\u00ealent \u00e0 l\u2019aventure. Les tunnels mal ou pas \u00e9clair\u00e9s font froid dans le dos <em>\u00ab il faut serrer les fesses \u00bb&nbsp;!\u2026<\/em> To add a little more sordidness to this journey, motorists take great pleasure in honking their horns in the tunnel, which is becoming a nightmare. Above all, don't turn round, keep to the right, look straight ahead, try to see the end of the tunnel, get out quickly, and start again, cling to your bike, pedal, pedal as fast as you can to finally get through this damned passage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It's 18:15 when the first houses in Val d'Is\u00e8re come into view!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phew! That climb was really tough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Et Roger&nbsp;?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Et Roger&nbsp;! O\u00f9 est-il&nbsp;? Loin derri\u00e8re, ou \u00e0 quelques centaines de m\u00e8tres&nbsp;? Je l\u2019attends devant l\u2019h\u00f4tel quelques minutes, mais je grelotte tellement que je renonce. J\u2019entre dans l\u2019h\u00f4tel et me jette sous la douche, chaude cette fois&nbsp;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>God, it's good!...<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>J\u2019apprendrai plus tard que Roger est mont\u00e9 jusque Val d\u2019Is\u00e8re, mais ne trouvant pas d\u2019h\u00f4tel \u00e0 sa convenance, il est redescendu par les tunnels jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 Tignes, o\u00f9 une auberge de jeunesse l\u2019attendait&nbsp;! Vous avez dit <em>\u00ab Costaud le Roger&nbsp;! \u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Val d\u2019Is\u00e8re station r\u00e9put\u00e9e de vacances n\u2019en demeure pas moins une station froide, non par l\u2019accueil mais par son climat. Val d\u2019Is\u00e8re est \u00e0 1840&nbsp;m d\u2019altitude, aujourd\u2019hui il y fait particuli\u00e8rement froid pour un 6 ao\u00fbt. L\u2019h\u00f4telier me dit que la route de l\u2019Iseran est ferm\u00e9e pour cause de neige&nbsp;! Eh oui, m\u00eame si j\u2019avais voulu monter j\u2019aurai \u00e9t\u00e9 contraint de m\u2019arr\u00eater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tomorrow will be daylight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">L'iseran<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019\u00e9tape d\u00e9marre fort, j\u2019attends l\u2019h\u00f4telier 45\u2019 dans le hall de l\u2019h\u00f4tel pour qu\u2019il me lib\u00e8re enfin mon v\u00e9lo. La veille j\u2019avais pris soin de prendre un plateau \u00ab petit dej \u00bb pour partir t\u00f4t \u00e0 l\u2019assaut de l\u2019Iseran, eh bien c\u2019est loup\u00e9. J\u2019avais oubli\u00e9 que le v\u00e9lo \u00e9tait enferm\u00e9, en s\u00e9curit\u00e9 certes, mais enferm\u00e9 quand m\u00eame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As soon as we leave Val d'Is\u00e8re, we attack the slopes of the Iseran. It snowed last night and it's very cold, so I suspect I'll be shivering up there. The climb up to the Iseran (2764m) on this side of the mountain isn't very hard, fortunately, because in the morning, in the cool ...<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tr\u00e8s peu de circulation,&nbsp; encore moins de cyclo, (pas de Roger en vue&nbsp;?) \u00e0 4&nbsp;km du sommet, c\u2019est avec le brouillard et le froid hivernal que je progresse. Des panneaux sur le bas c\u00f4t\u00e9 de la route signale&nbsp;: <em>warning: \"beware of black ice\",<\/em> There are patches of snow all over the road, making the ground slippery. I finish the climb in the <em>\"pea pur\u00e9e<\/em> terrible :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><em>Now that's a real collar!...<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"303\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image013.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-84826\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Je prends la photo souvenir devant le fameux panneau directionnel&nbsp;:<br><em>\u00ab \u00e0 droite Val d\u2019Is\u00e8re, \u00e0 gauche Bonneval \u00bb.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>I try to get the souvenir stamp from the restaurant. There, 2 young men tell me that the restaurant is closed, and that it doesn't open until 10am. I don't feel like waiting, the photo on the sign is more than enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les jeunes m\u2019offrent quelques friandises, je me change, j\u2019enfile tout ce que j\u2019ai de chaud. Iici \u00e0 cette heure il fait 1degr\u00e9&nbsp;: <em>Incroyable&nbsp;!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les 2 gars font une randonn\u00e9e p\u00e9destre, ils ont pass\u00e9 la nuit dans la cabine du t\u00e9l\u00e9si\u00e8ge, il a neig\u00e9 une bonne partie de la nuit&nbsp;! De beaux souvenirs \u00e0 raconter&nbsp;!&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"304\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image035.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-84827\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The descent is freezing, but I'm glad to get to Bonneval, then it's an easy climb to the Col de la Madeleine and the sunny finish at Lanslevillard. It's a busy market day. Sitting on the terrace of a caf\u00e9, it's great to warm up in the sunshine, enjoying 1 coffee and some pastries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In Italy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Col du Mont Cenis marks the crossing into Italy on this tour. The slope is steep, but the fine weather is back, and the descent on the Italian side is a thing of beauty.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"434\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image015.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-84829\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Descent of Mont Cenis<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The organiser has made 2 proposals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Soit passer par les cr\u00eates de l\u2019Assietta (ancienne route militaire, tr\u00e8s panoramique, qui culmine \u00e0 2000 et plus pendant environ 40&nbsp;km),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Either go from Suza to Cesana Torinese by road. I opt for this version (easier, safer), reserving the ridge section for another time, without a pannier...<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The road from Suza to Cesana is reputed to be very busy, but in fact it's not as bad as all that. The downside is the roadworks, which sometimes get in the way.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"448\" height=\"302\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image018.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-84830\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Passage to Italy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>La derni\u00e8re difficult\u00e9 du jour, c\u2019est le col de Montgen\u00e8vre qui culmine \u00e0 1850&nbsp;m, ensuite c\u2019est la plong\u00e9e sur Brian\u00e7on, la plus haute ville d\u2019Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">La surprise du jour&nbsp;!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After some hesitation (at the end of the stage, it's better not to make a mistake in Brian\u00e7on, whose steep streets sometimes resemble those of St Francisco), I arrive at the H\u00f4tel de Paris. It was fully booked, so I was right to make a reservation. A good shower, a good meal, and before going to bed a final breath of fresh air and a few steps (ideal for digestion).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I'm walking past the hotel, it's dark, suddenly I see the glow of a bicycle headlight a few metres away, no, it can't be true, <strong><em>it's ROGER!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It's 10.30 p.m. and Roger has just completed the Iseran stage!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He's tired, but happy and amazed to find me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u2013 <em>\u00ab Tu dors o\u00f9 ce soir Roger&nbsp;? \u00bb<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u2013 <em>\u00ab L\u2019h\u00f4tel est complet&nbsp;? \u00bb, \u00ab c\u2019est pas grave, je vais dormir devant la gare&nbsp;! \u00bb<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u2013 <em>\u00ab NON&nbsp;! viens j\u2019ai une id\u00e9e. \u00bb<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I went to see the hotel manager, chatted a bit, tried (easily) to win her over, and that's how Roger spent the night in the room specially reserved for the bikes: it was clean, it was warm, there was a sofa, it didn't take much to get a good night's sleep. Roger is even allowed to eat just before closing time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many thanks to \"&nbsp;<em>Hotel de Paris<\/em>&nbsp;\"It's a real pleasure to welcome you to Brian\u00e7on and its owner, who obviously loves cyclists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That evening, as we dined together, Roger recounted his terrible ascent of Val d'Is\u00e8re, and his regulation half-turn to find the g\u00eete in Tignes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Izoard pass<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image009.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"303\" data-id=\"84825\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image009.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-84825\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Roger on the Izoard<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image022.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"345\" height=\"498\" data-id=\"84833\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image022.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-84833\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The 4<sup>th<\/sup> \u00e9tape n\u2019est pas trop longue, 94&nbsp;km, aussi nous partons Roger et moi \u00e0 7 heures 45\u2019 en direction du col de l\u2019Izoard. Il fait beau, la pente n\u2019est pas trop s\u00e9v\u00e8re sur ce versant. Apr\u00e8s la photo souvenir au col, j\u2019aborde la descente sur Guillestre. Roger lui fait une variante pour pointer le BPF de St V\u00e9ran. Au passage du site remarquable de la casse d\u00e9serte, je m\u2019arr\u00eate pour la photo \u00e0 la st\u00e8le de Fausto Coppi.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"451\" height=\"303\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image020.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-84834\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>I have an excellent meal in a very relaxing restaurant, and it's full of strength that I attack the Col de Vars, the famous Col de Vars. I dreaded it a little, because it was here that I was struck down by fatigue on my first attempt in 1987! It was the first time I'd set foot on the ground for a few hundred metres, <em>what a waste!...<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But today, my morale and my legs were up for the challenge, and I made it to the top without any major problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It's 5 p.m. when I arrive at the g\u00eete d'\u00e9tape in Jausiers. It's a nice place, the dormitory is rustic but clean, and the meal will be of a high standard - we'll even be treated to some g\u00e9n\u00e9pi sugar, the owner's speciality!...<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tonight's discussion is lively, Roger has a way with words, he likes to talk about \"his\" bike, and our neighbours at the table are won over, even admired, by this man who in a few days' time is going to join the very exclusive club of winners of the <em>\"Brevet des Provinces Fran\u00e7aises\".<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Bonette pass<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"304\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-84835\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The 5<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp; \u00e9tape, c\u2019est l\u2019\u00e9tape de la Bonette, un col que j\u2019appr\u00e9cie particuli\u00e8rement, long (24&nbsp;km de Jausiers au col) pente r\u00e9guli\u00e8re, bon rev\u00eatement sur ce versant, d\u00e9cor grandiose, lunaire presque, bref vous l\u2019avez compris la Bonette j\u2019aime. Et la cerise sur le g\u00e2teau, le cadeau de la nature (ou de la DDE&nbsp;?) la Bonette offre \u00e0 son sommet la possibilit\u00e9 d\u2019en faire le tour et de monter jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la cime&nbsp;: <em>a real treat<\/em>. I take one last look at this fabulous, unique landscape, and as I climb the hairpin bends, I catch a glimpse of a few cyclists in the distance: is it Roger?<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"448\" height=\"303\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image026.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-84836\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>It's very cold, and after the photo I start the descent, which promises to be a perilous one, as the road is in poor condition and calls for extreme caution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was with some relief that I arrived in Saint-Etienne-de-Tin\u00e9e. I sat down on the terrace of a caf\u00e9 to watch Roger arrive. Today is the day we part ways, he heads for Saint-Martin-de-V\u00e9subie, and I for Saint-Sauveur-de-Tin\u00e9e and the Col de la Couillole.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"449\" height=\"302\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image028.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-84837\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>On the way up I'll have to endure a fine rainstorm (it's wet!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The evening stopover in Beuil will be quite amusing. The owner of the hotel, who is relatively old, runs her business alone, so I'll be sharing the meal with the caf\u00e9's customers and enjoying the inimitable bar conversations!...<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Cians gorges<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The 6<sup>th<\/sup> \u00e9tape, commence par la travers\u00e9e des tr\u00e8s belles gorges du Cians. J\u2019avais il y a 10 ans appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 ce passage dans ces gorges \u00e9troites en porphyre rouge. Mais cette ann\u00e9e je reste un peu sur ma faim, le parcours devenait sans doute tellement dangereux que des travaux titanesques ont pratiquement an\u00e9anti le spectacle, tout se passe maintenant dans des tunnels, quel dommage&nbsp;! J\u2019ai malgr\u00e9 tout essay\u00e9 de reprendre la route en corniche mais au regard de l\u2019amoncellement de pierres sur la chauss\u00e9e, je renonce.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"323\" height=\"468\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image031.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-84838\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Apr\u00e8s le jolie passage des gorges inf\u00e9rieures du Cian, une succession de petits cols, avant d\u2019arriver \u00e0 Saint-Vallier-de-Thiey, terme des 110&nbsp;km de cette \u00e9tape.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"303\" src=\"https:\/\/centcols.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image033.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-84839\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>This time I'm in Provence, so the last few kilometres of the Alpine will be swallowed up quickly, and without being a formality, it doesn't present any major difficulties. Antibes is an optional checkpoint, so I voluntarily branch off into the hinterland to avoid the endless queues of cars and the fear that accompanies them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tomorrow sees the start of the ascent to Thonon and, above all, a stage at the foot of Mont Ventoux!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The end of the journey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>La grande Aventure Alpestre prend fin, quel beau voyage, quelle belle partie de \u00ab manivelles \u00bb que de cols magnifiques&nbsp;!
