{"id":95645,"date":"2026-09-09T10:59:11","date_gmt":"2026-09-09T08:59:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/centcols.org\/?p=95645"},"modified":"2026-09-09T11:00:40","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T09:00:40","slug":"the-san-boldo-pass","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/centcols.org\/en\/le-passo-di-san-boldo\/","title":{"rendered":"Le passo di San Boldo"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An impressive 701 metres<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jean-Jacques Monod, Ecublens (Switzerland) No. 6556<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In July 2008, together with a friend who is a centcol enthusiast, we spent a week in Italy, in Feltre, south of the Dolomites.<br>During one of the stages, we crossed the Passo di San Boldo <a type=\"link\" href=\"\/en\/useful\/geo\/visu-php\/?code=IT-BL-0706\" id=\"\/util\/geo\/visu.php?code=IT-BL-0706\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IT-BL-0706<\/a>. At an altitude of 701 metres, with a 6-kilometre climb and a 470-metre elevation gain, it wouldn\u2019t even be worth mentioning. It links two valleys 16 kilometres apart (near Monte Cimone). But it really is a different sort of ride. As you leave the valley, you pass through the pretty little village of Tovena, then the road climbs gently: 5, 6, 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And as we approach the mountain, a dizzying rock face looms before us. We find ourselves wondering just where we\u2019re going to get through. Our patience is being put to the test. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The higher we climb, the closer we get to that cliff face. We\u2019ll have to either cross it or climb over it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">And then, surprise! <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As you round a bend, you can see the road stretching across four different levels and the 180-degree hairpin bends carved into the mountainside. The road is narrow and allows traffic to flow in one direction only. Traffic lights regulate the flow of traffic.
