Il s\u2019est form\u00e9 en m\u00eame temps que les Alpes lors de la collision des plaques africaine et eurasienne.&nbsp; Pico del Veleta ( 3396&nbsp;m ) est le troisi\u00e8me plus haut sommet espagnol et se trouve \u00e0 l\u2019extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 ouest de la cha\u00eene, au-dessus de la ville de Grenade. La \u201croute la plus haute d\u2019Europe\u201d (le titre est disput\u00e9&nbsp;!) grimpe pratiquement jusqu\u2019au sommet.
