De schaarste aan water verhinderde permanente menselijke bewoning. Alleen de klim naar Bocca di Petraiolu vormt een kleine moeilijkheid. In bepaalde periodes van het jaar kan de overloop van het Cannuta-meer het stuk van 500 m onbegaanbaar maken.
