In het hart van het Beaufortin massief in de Savoie ligt de Passage de la Charmette (FR-73-2058<\/a>) is een prachtige pas die de hele weg naar boven uitzonderlijke uitzichten biedt. Vanaf het dorp Ar\u00eaches klim je 1026 m in 12,6 km, eerst over asfalt naar de Col du Pr\u00e9 (FR-73-1703<\/a>), dan over een pad (R1) naar de top.<\/p>\n\n\n

Je kunt misschien een bezoek boeken aan Ar\u00eaches - een mooi dorp dat de vruchten plukt van de wintersport - voordat je de zware klim naar de Col du Pr\u00e9 (9,2% over 7,3 km) aangaat. De weg is zeer goed aangelegd, kronkelt op en neer en geeft je het gevoel dat je over Ar\u00eaches vliegt. Na ongeveer 3 km kom je bij het dorp Boudin, dat op de lijst van de mooiste dorpen van Frankrijk staat. De typische chalets, waar geen enkel onlogisch gebouw de charme verbreekt, liggen verspreid op de helling die bedekt is met hooiland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Op de top van de pas wissel je niet naar de andere kant; de weg gaat verder over een vals plat. Na ongeveer 700 m neem je een breed pad naar rechts (een oud houten bord geeft de Passage de la Charmette aan). Dit is het begin van een prachtige beklimming langs het blauwe water van de Roselendam, gedomineerd door de grillige pieken van de Beaufortin, waaronder de beroemde Pierra Menta.<\/p>\n\n\n

Na 4,6 km kom je op een heuvelrug midden in de bergweiden, de top van de Passage de la Charmette. Op de westelijke helling kun je de vallei zien waarin de stuwdam van Saint-Gu\u00e9rin ligt. Verderop leidt het pad naar de top van Cormet d'Ar\u00eaches (FR-73-2109<\/a>). De afdaling aan deze kant gaat over een smal pad (S2-3) waar de koeien van Tarine je de kneepjes van het vak zullen leren. Je kunt ook terugkeren naar de weg van de Col du Pr\u00e9 en de stuwmuur oversteken om de Col de M\u00e9raillet te vinden (FR-73-1605<\/a>) . Aan de rand van de D217 die naar Cormet de Roselend leidt (FR-73-1968<\/a>), ontdekken we de zeer fotogenieke Roselend kapel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kort voor de kapel, aan de linkerkant, leidt een pad (R1-2) naar de pas Sur Fr\u00eates (FR-73-1792<\/a>). De terugkeer naar Ar\u00eaches kan worden gedaan door terug te gaan over de Col du Pr\u00e9 (maar dit is echt een genot), of door de top van de Col de M\u00e9raillet te nemen (FR-73-1605<\/a>) richting Beaufort. Dit dorp geeft zijn naam aan de bergen die je hebt bewonderd en aan de kaas waarmee je je zadeltassen kunt vullen op de terugweg naar Ar\u00eaches over de D218.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
