Gérard Obrecht cc 2543
Nénesse, as many of his friends called him, left us on Monday.
Since 1986, he had been a member of the Club des Cent Cols, where he paid his dues without interruption. His number was 2543.
Generous and helpful, he devoted himself to chairing AS Meudon cyclo for several years.
His physique was the opposite of that of a climber, and he managed to climb 2,389 passes. So as not to make us wait too long at the top, he used to anticipate the start: "I'm going as a postman, you'll catch me up". When he reached the top, he hardly stopped at all to avoid us getting too cold. But from the stroke of midday, he would quickly become in a foul mood if lunch or a picnic wasn't soon in sight.
In addition to the CCC brotherhood, he was also a member of the much more informal AOC brotherhood, the Avaleurs Obstinés de Cols. Mountain passes, of course, but not the only ones. He also loved good food and good wine.
He has invited his close friends to the scattering of his ashes at the Col de la Gourdasse one day soon. FR-21-0463a pass that was dear to him, which he climbed dozens of times and where he gave his last pedal strokes.
That's for sure, Nénesse, we won't forget it.
