Road pass awards
Overview
The Club des Cent Cols offers its members road pass brevets. The passes selected for these brevets are those considered to be road passes in the Club's database (in the catalogues). Some are only accessible by road from one side. The brevets are defined by country and by administrative division within a country. As a general rule, the same administrative divisions are considered as those that determine the second part of the pass code. Depending on the country, these may be departments, provinces, cantons, etc. In this document, the term regional applies to these administrative divisions and not to other definitions (political or otherwise) of a region. As with the official counting of members' passes, brevets are based on the sworn declaration that a pass has been passed. This article shows how to register for a brevet, how to record the passes passed and how to obtain a brevet diploma.
Presentation of awards and registration
On the club's website, the list of all road awards can be found at this address:
List of awards
You do not need to be logged in as a member to access this page. However, you do need to log in if you want to register for an award or view the data for your own awards. The list displayed starts with all the countries that also have regional awards. Simply click on the name of such a country to display its regional awards. Then click on the name of one of these awards to obtain a list of the passes that make it up. Countries without regional cards are displayed at the end of the list. Here, clicking on the name of the country brings up the list of passes directly.
Once you are on the award page with its list of passes, you have the option (if you haven't already done so) of registering for that award. There are no formalities to follow other than confirming your choice. In itself, registering does not commit you to anything.
The maximum number of passes to be climbed to obtain an award is set at the time of registration. You can therefore never have more. On the other hand, there may be fewer passes to climb, depending on particular situations, new or discovered after registration, for some of the passes on the list.
The cases concerned are as follows:
- a road pass that is deemed or has become prohibited
- a pass incorrectly labelled as a road pass when it is in fact a mule pass or a road pass that has become a mule pass
- a pass removed from the catalogue for various reasons (generally because of its topographical aspect) and which is therefore excluded from the Rules of the Game.
It cannot be ruled out that other grounds for exclusion may be considered in the future, such as those resulting from border changes.
Pass registration and patent tracking
When you register for a brevet, it's usually because you've already ridden some of the passes. If any passes have already been recorded in your personal list, you can see this as soon as you register: a table is displayed showing which passes have been recorded and which are still to be done. Passes deleted from the catalogue after registration appear with a dustbin symbol; passes added after registration are listed at the end of the pass list. If you wish to update the pass list to reflect the current state of the catalogue, simply unregister and re-register for the brevet.
A link on this page also provides a similar table as a PDF file. This PDF is intended primarily for printing or archiving purposes.
Passes that have been completed but are not yet fully entered in the list can be saved. There are three ways of doing this:
- Passes which are already in the list but without a date of passage. The date of passage is not necessary, but it can be entered on the page displaying passes made.
- Passes that have already been officially declared to the Club. These are passes which have already been counted on the membership form (on the roll of honour) after being checked by the Territorial Delegate (TD), but which do not yet appear as done for the brevet. For these passes to be included in the brevet, they must be register for information only. A specific documentation is available for this purpose.
- Passes that have not yet been officially declared. In this case, they must be declared. We strongly recommend that you take advantage of the online declaration because it integrates them directly into the corresponding patents. There is also a specific documentation.
Excluded passes
As explained in the comments to article 1 of the Game rulesFor example, some passes can be crossed by two different routes, but count as a single pass. This is particularly the case when a tunnel allows passage under a natural pass. Declaring one therefore excludes declaring the other. If both crossings are by road, crossing only one of them is sufficient to obtain the brevet. In the list of brevet passes, they appear as a two-line entry. Participants can choose one or other of the passes, or both. As it is only possible to register at than one, if we want both to appear as facts in the patent, it is necessary torecord the second for information purposes.
Graduation
When a participant (logged in as a member on the site) has completed all the passes of a brevet, this is displayed on the brevet page. The PDF obtained from this page then contains a diploma confirming completion of the brevet. As this PDF is issued automatically, it does not include a signature.
The case is different for national brevets made up of several regional brevets. In this case, the participant must register with the brevets manager brevets@centcols.org so that the latter can issue a signed diploma.
