Departure : car park located in the commune of Plancher-les-Mines, at the dead end by the canal (turn right onto Rue du Pont du Var; the car park is on the left after the small bridge). Alt: 500 m.

Tourist information

The route passes through Belfahy, the highest village in the Vosges mountains, and continues on to Miellin. The Melisey valley (home to Thibaut Pinot) boasts a beautiful 12th-century Romanesque church^e, and runs alongside the Plateau des 1000 Étangs, which is well worth an extra day to explore. The climb up the Col de la Chevestraye passes through Fresse, a typical village in the Saône Vosges. The final stretch of the route has become legendary, as the Planche des Belles Filles has been climbed six times by the men’s Tour de France and has become an unmissable highlight.

Technical specifications

The stretch of road between Belfahy and Miellin is very steep and in poor condition. The D486 is quite busy, which suggests travelling anti-clockwise. The gradients on La Planche are record-breaking, at over 20 % (24 % in the final stretch).
