Tourist information

The Sierra Nevada (Spanish for snow-capped mountain range) is an east-west mountain range. It was formed at the same time as the Alps when the African and Eurasian plates collided. Pico del Veleta ( 3396 m ) is Spain's third highest peak and is located at the western end of the range, above the city of Granada. The "highest road in Europe" (the title is disputed!) climbs almost all the way to the summit. A number of satellite passes add to the cycling appeal of Pico del Veleta.

The ascent of Pico Veleta is included in this itinerary.

There are hotels on the route, allowing you to split the ascent into two parts.
