FR-2B Au coeur du désert des Agriates - Gravel 35 km, D+ 715 m, 8 passes

Author description

Author Bernard Giraudeau

Course : carried out in 2012

Departure Parking: parking area near the Domaine de l'Ostriconi on the T30. Height: 9 m

Tourist information

The Agriates Desert, a patatoid protuberance on the north-western coast of Corsica, was once fertile farmland (agriate comes from agraire ). The scarcity of water prevented permanent human occupation. The 15,000-hectare site between St-Florent and the Ostriconi valley is an area of outstanding beauty from both a coastal and inland perspective.

Of particular interest are the old Terrice sheepfolds at km 24.5 on the left and "l'Oriu" at km 34.2 on the right.

Technical specifications

There are 12 km of road and 22 km of track on this route. Only the climb to Bocca di Petraiolu presents a slight difficulty. At certain times of year, the overflow of the Cannuta pond may make the 500 m stretch impassable. Check this point before setting off!
