General meeting of the Club des Cent Cols and mini-break at La Bastide-de-Sérou (Ariège) on 30 November and 1 December 2013

Presentation

After the Alps and the superb General Meeting in Annecy to celebrate the club's fortieth anniversary, we're off to the Pyrenees, in Ariège to be precise, where we'll be welcomed by the Vernajoul club and its president Alain Bucher (also president of Codep 09).

The club has around sixty members, including forty youngsters in the Cycling School.

All members of the Confrérie are cordially invited.

La Bastide de Sérou

(977 inhabitants - altitude 405 m at the station). This commune is located in the heart of the Séronais region, in the Plantaurel massif between Foix and Saint-Girons. It is part of the Ariège Pyrenees Regional Nature Park. The river Arize flows through the village, rising in the Arize Massif at the Col de Péguère (1375 m) and continuing on to Mas d'Azil.
In the centre of the village is a covered market built in 1830 and housing three 19th century grain scales.^e century.
Around fifteen mills have operated in the area around La Bastide de Sérou, on the River Arize. For a long time, their main activity was spinning linen to make sheets, and then they were used to make flour.
Copper and silver were mined here until the 16th century.^e century.
But it was at Unjat, on the Pouech site, that bauxite mining was developed, with activity ceasing in 1980.
The local economy is currently based on a number of craftsmen and organic producers.

Les Lambrilles" holiday village comprises 24 fully-equipped chalets, each sleeping 4, and is located in the heart of the village along the Arize river, in a natural, family-friendly setting.
