Tourist information

A superb mountain bike loop in France's largest alpine pasture facing the glaciers of the Meije, among crystal-clear lakes, herds and high altitude flora.
The Emparis plateau is situated at an altitude of over 2,000 metres in the French departments of Isère and Hautes-Alpes. It forms part of the Arves massif and faces the Écrins massif, notably La Meije and Le Râteau. It lies within the municipalities of Besse, Mizoën and La Grave.
The Emparis plateau, with its rich flora and fauna, is one of France's Natura 2000 sites.
The route passes through the beautiful village of Besse-en-Oisans with its dry-stone houses.

Technical specifications

Over the 41 km of the course :

30 km are covered on R1 roads,
Approximately 10 km round trip along the path to the Col du Souchet and La Brèche; the route is estimated to be suitable for cycling for about 30 %,
90 metres along the path to reach Col Nazie.
