Meeting of the Cent Cols de Suisse in Vevey - 28 February 2014

Minutes

At 8.30 am, Nicole and Jean-Pierre brought us coffee and some Cuchaule in the car park by the baths. The sun is shining brightly and it’s already a lovely temperature.
A small group of six set off at 9 am on this 36 km route featuring two mountain passes. After a 6 km warm-up along a lovely little road, the gradient steepens considerably, reaching 13 to 15 %. Two bends before the summit of the Col des Hauts-Crêts, we stopped in front of a signpost for walkers and, to our surprise, saw the words «Col des Jognins» written on it.

A new pass just 2 km away – without a moment’s hesitation, everyone agreed to go and have a closer look. After pushing our bikes along a track for two km, we reached the pass. To avoid backtracking, we decided to descend via the western side to reach Charmey and then climb back up to the Passage du Jeu de Quille. The route was therefore extended by 10 km but included an extra pass. We were back in Charmey at 4 pm to enjoy a beer (or rather, two) before heading home.

See you soon for new discoveries.
