Mon tour de l'hexagone à Vélo -7600 kilometres along the French borders

Pierre Hérant (CC member no. 7,946) has completed his own Tour de France, cyclocamping the five summits of France on a route previously created by Régis Paraz, as close as possible to the borders and coastlines and over the major passes of the Alps and Pyrenees. In a handsome, large-format 192-page book illustrated with 320 colour photos and all the maps of the route, he details, with a photographer's eye and an enthusiast's pen, his 84 stages representing a total of 7,600 km with 80,000 m of positive ascent and more than 80 passes crossed, which he divides into six chapters for each side of the Hexagon:
- 1st leg from Menton (Alpes-Maritimes) to Lauterbourg (Bas-Rhin): 1530 km and 23,260 m D+,
- 3rd side from Bray-Dunes to Plouarzel (Finistère) covering 1800 km and 14,400 m D+,
- 4th leg from Plourzel to Hendaye (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) covering 1750 km and 10,200 m D+,
- 5th leg from Hendaye to Cerbère (Pyrénées-Orientales) covering 925 km and 19,450 m D+,
- 6th leg from Cerbère to Menton (Alpes-Maritimes) covering 745 km and 4,150 m D+ .
Depending on the time available, you can choose to complete your own Tour de France on one or more occasions, on a muscle bike or a VAE, loaded with panniers, in bike packing or in light assisted mode, starting where you want, whatever the time of year (except in winter for the mountain stages).
