Rencontre Occitane Bernardini, 25 June 2023 - Amelie les Bains

From 1990 to 1994, René Marty brilliantly organised the "Concentration de la ligue Pyrénées Roussillon". In 1995, he renamed it the "Randonnée souvenir Michel Bernardini" in honour of his friend who died prematurely in 1993, and ran it until 2015.

From 2016 to 2022, Jean Pierre Lambert successfully took over.

I've been asked to help keep this organisation going, and I'm delighted to accept the challenge! I've thoroughly enjoyed these meetings, having hardly missed one in over 20 years!

So we'll be able to get together again for the Bernardini 2023 Rencontre Occitane, in keeping with the spirit of the other regional meetings. Occitane to mark the geographical location to which I am very attached. Bernardini to honour the memory of Michel Bernardini.

The regional meeting will take place on Sunday 25 June 2023 in the heart of the Vallespir region. Departure from Amélie les Bains Palalda at 09.00 a.m. The proposed route is relatively easy and accessible to gravel riders. Eight passes can be crossed in 35 km, with a difference in altitude of 1,250 m.

The route planned for Sunday is published on Openrunner (number 16538625).

For a number of years now, this meeting has been transformed into a mini break, much to the delight of those taking part. Those who wish to do so can meet up again from the evening of Thursday 22nd or Friday morning until Monday. Three other itineraries will then be offered, also accessible to all. For those taking part in the whole trip, from Friday 23 to Monday 26, there will be 43 passes to cross. Most of them will be cycleable. Only a few sections will require a bit of pushing or even carrying.

Friday 23 June: OR 15759697 - 35 km - D 960 m - 14 passes. As this is a short route, it may be possible to complete it with a return trip from Amélie to the Collada de Sant Pau: OR 16874377 - 17 km and D 230 m.
Saturday 24 June: OR 16875417 - 57 km - D 1300 m - 6 cols or OR 16495317 - 70 km - D 1700 m - 11 cols.
Monday 26 June: OR 16875007 - 47 km - D 1300 m - 8 cols or OR 16495422 - 58 km - D 1800 m - 10 cols.

For Friday, Saturday and Monday, these routes are only suggestions. They can be done at completely free pace, modified if necessary and with a start at everyone's convenience. There is also plenty of scope for doing a number of road routes.

There is a plethora of accommodation in the city... but there are also a lot of tourists. Don't hesitate to book your accommodation well in advance if you're taking part over several days. The Castel Emeraude apartment hotel seems to offer good value for money.
