One hundred passes in Savoie Mont Blanc
Presentation
This 1,800 km route includes 103 passes, 6 of which are over 2,000 m (+ 18 optional passes, 2 of which are over 2,000 m), for a total altitude difference of at least 42,000 m.
This permanent trail is presented in partnership with Savoie Mont Blanc Tourisme.
Traced by Régis Paraz (Cent Cols no. 3225).
Theme
The Club des Cent Cols, founded in 1972, is affiliated to the French Cycling Federation under No. 6384, offers you this permanent walk based on a simple theme: "One hundred passes".
One hundred (three) passes, either to allow you to join the Confrérie du Club des Cent Cols, or to allow you to progress in the Confrérie's "Tableau d'Honneur", or in any case to allow you to discover or rediscover the two departments of the Pays de Savoie with a little incursion into our Helvetian neighbours, bypassing the Mont-Blanc massif.
Special features
The foothills of the Chartreuse massif, the quiet little roads of the Avant Pays Savoyard with their often little-known passes, and the last links in the Jura chain above Lac du Bourget will be your appetisers before tackling the other Savoyard massifs.
Prestigious passes such as the Galibier and Iseran, to name but a few, will bear witness to your efforts. You'll pedal through vineyards, along or over natural lakes (Aiguebelette, Bourget, Léman, Annecy...) or man-made lakes (Tignes, Roselend), through mountain pastures and sometimes under the benevolent eye of glaciers.
You'll discover all the richness and variety of these regions. In the evening, at the stopover, you can build up your strength by tasting the AOC wines produced by the different regions you have visited: white and red wines or cheeses (Tomme de Savoie, Reblochon, Beaufort, etc.).
The December 2013 issue of the Fédération Française de Cyclotourisme's "Cylotourisme" magazine contains a two-page article on this permanent ride:
Participants must have their route card checked in each of the 9 sections of the route at points chosen by the rider. Each check will take the form of either a wet stamp obtained from a shopkeeper or local authority, or an explicit photo (e.g. bike in front of a town or pass sign).
