Savoie and Isère by bike

In August 1871, at the age of nineteen, Adrien de Baroncelli, the future author of famous travel guides, mounted his trusty "véloce", Frou-Frou, and set off alone along the roads of Savoie and the Isère.
In response to a request from the editor of Vélocipède illustré, he sent the newspaper a report of his trip, which was published in six issues between August and October 1872.
Today, this text is unanimously considered to be the first account of a journey by bicycle. Regularly quoted in publications on velocipedie, but rarely read in full, it has never been published in volume form, and only a few rare collectors have ever seen it, recently joined by others who have found it online on specialist websites.
I'm a great fan of cycling travelogues, so I thought it was important to make this seminal text available to as many people as possible. It contains the main elements of any good book of this kind: a description of the machine, mechanical advice, encounters on the road, daily life and the landscapes and sites you'll come across.
Complete with notes on the velocipedic panorama of these post-Prussian war years, biographical and bibliographical information and significant illustrations, this little work is intended as a modest contribution to the great history of the bicycle.
