Summer holiday in Praz-sur-Arly, 26 August to 02 September 2023
Enrico Alberini, Jean Luc Matte, Christophe Badonnel and the IT managers contributed to this page presenting the trip.
The 2023 summer break will take place from 26 August to 02 September 2023 in Haute-Savoie, in the heart of the Mont Blanc region. It has been prepared by a small local team: Sylvie Rémond, Didier Rémond and Sébastien Vadot.

We will be staying in the Belambra holiday village "l'Alisier".
Introduction to the region
Praz-sur-Arly is a commune in the French department of Haute-Savoie, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
The village of Praz-sur-Arly lies at an altitude of 1,035 metres in the Val d'Arly,
between Megève and Flumet. The river Arly flows through it upstream of its gorges, and the Cassioz and Varins streams flow through it.
History
In the 14th century, a few farmers settled and built the first farms at La Thona (now La Tonnaz). These were the first inhabitants of what would much later become Pratz de Megève, then Praz-sur-Arly. Over time, other hamlets sprang up: Réon, then le Pratz (the origin of the present-day centre of the village of Praz-sur-Arly).
The 17th century saw the construction of chapels (Tonnaz in 1600 and Pratz in 1643) and then a church, founded in 1696. This was the church of Sainte Marie-Madeleine, united with the parish of Megève.
Like the rest of the region, Pratz de Megève has been through many upheavals. During the French Revolution, Savoie was annexed by the new republic before returning to the kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia. A second period of upheaval saw Savoie reunited with France, and on 14 June 1860, Pratz de Megève became French once and for all, but the Pralins remained Megèvants.
The separation from Megève was decreed in 1869, following political differences between Megève and the imperial administration, and became effective in 1870.
In 1907, at the request of the town council and following a government decision, Pratz de Megève became Praz-sur-Arly. This decision made the commune completely independent and cut it off from Megève once and for all.
Tourism
The village left its mark on the history of tourism by hosting France's first snow class. Children from a school in Paris were welcomed to Praz-sur-Arly from 9 to 30 March 1950 at the Les Bambinos chalet (now called the Val Soleil chalet).
The village has its own ski resort. Its ski area is linked to the Espace Diamant ski area, which brings together the resorts and villages of Les Saisies, Crest-Voland, Notre-Dame-de-Bellecombe and Flumet.
It is the only village in the French Alps to have a hot-air balloon spot with a specialist airline open almost all year round. This is due to the favourable aerological conditions in this open, wind-protected Alpine valley.

Gastronomy
Praz-sur-Arly is home to the production of four PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) cheeses and two PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) cheeses.
PDO: Reblochon - Beaufort - Chevrotin - Abondance;
-PGI: Emmental de Savoie - Tomme de Savoie.
As far as Beaufort is concerned, Praz-sur-Arly is the only commune in Haute-Savoie to be awarded the PDO label for its entire territory.
