Author description
Author : René Mercier
Course Completed in May 2025
Departure : Clermont-l’Hérault, in the town centre opposite the «Communauté de communes du Clermontais» tourist information office and the coach station, with a large car park next to it (market on Wednesday mornings).
Tourist information
A truly beautiful route that takes you along the shores of Lake Salagou and its red earth, made up of clay and iron oxide. You then pass through low mountain ranges, free from traffic, all the way to Bédarieux. From Faugères, you feel as though you’re alone in the world, amidst woods and forests, then along the ridges. Taking this route in spring allows you to enjoy the flowering vegetation, particularly on the second half of the journey. Before finishing this magnificent route, you descend via Villeneuvette and its former royal factory, established under Louis XIV.
Technical specifications
The route is entirely on roads (100 %) and presents no major difficulties.
Take care after Bédarieux: at the Col du Buis there is a 300-metre-long tunnel that runs in a straight line but is quite wide.
The Col de Gageot FR-34-0200a (prohibited) has not been included on this route as it is on private property with an aggressive dog.
