FR-34 Clermont l'Hérault - Route 100 km, D+ 1542 m, 8 cols

Author description

Author : René Mercier
Course Completed in May 2025
Departure In Clermont-l'Hérault, in the town centre in front of the «communauté de communes du Clermontais» tourist office and the bus station, with a large car park next door (market on Wednesday mornings).

Tourist information

This beautiful route takes you along the shores of Lake Salagou and its red earth made up of clay and iron oxide. Then you ride through small mountains untroubled by traffic to Bédarieux. From Faugères onwards, you feel alone in the world, surrounded by woods and forests, and then on ridges. Doing this route in spring allows you to take advantage of the vegetation in flower, particularly on the second part of the route. Before finishing this magnificent route, we come back down through Villeneuvette and its former royal factory created under Louis XIV.

Technical specifications

The route is 100%, with no major difficulties.
Be careful after Bédarieux: at the Col du Buis there is a tunnel 300 m long in a straight line but quite wide.
The Col de Gageot FR-34-0200a (prohibited) has not been included on this route as it is on private property with an aggressive dog.
