Adichatz Guy Chaurin
You emigrated from the Paris region and settled in Labenne, a small town on the border between the Landes and the Basque country. After the slopes of the Montagne de Reims, you were able to express yourself to the full on your proud steed in the hills of Chalossaise, and then the famous PAS DE BAS, just down the road from your home!
I can't remember when we first met on our bikes, both of us members of the Club des Cent Cols. You were happily climbing the steepest slopes in the Basque country, but you were patiently waiting for me, saying, «We've done the hardest part!»
In 2015, you were delighted to help me organise a small gathering in St Etienne de Baigorry, where 35 of our Cent Cols companions got a taste of the joys of the Basque mountains. At the time, you were wearing your helmet and socks in the green, white and red colours: you were the soul of the peloton, distilling here and there your advice on this or that route, all the while adding some tasty anecdotes!
In 2016, you took me from St Jean de Luz to your very, very steep paradise just above Irun: ERLAIZKO LEPOA, OTZARTEKO LEPOA, ELURRETXEKO LEPOA... your wheels were ’singing« EUSKARA! Once again, you showed me a great deal of friendship and patience, as I finished those steep slopes on foot. The return journey along the coastal road was fairly quick and we met up again for lunch. .
2017 meeting at the Col de Rillé, where you became a skilled mechanic and helped me change my inner tube twice, so that we arrived just in time for the meeting with Alain Gillodes, Chantal Sala and many other companions!

You were an elegant climber, sometimes discouraged by your latest blunder (like forgetting your shoes at the Cinq Terres meeting) .... At the time you had your favourite little group, known as the «bucoliques»! who left you on the shore of the Gulf of Genoa that day.

For 2 or 3 years you've been sending me «jokes» on WhatsApp, including one by Nicole Ferroni whom you liked... We wrote to each other again on 17 January 2026...
St Pierre will let you in without any problems because you'll be proud to wear this blue jersey, which has seen so many steep little roads and is a safe passage to the paradise of gentleman cyclists.
After Adichatz GUY, it's time to tell you about Agur.

Very nice text that describes Guy's qualities very well: discretion, courtesy, a good companion on the road or in the bedroom ... we will miss him.
We have lost a kind and sympathetic comrade.
Guy Chaurin's sudden death comes as a shock, because less than a week before his death, we were still chatting in jest about the «jokes» (as he liked to say) that he was so fond of.
With Guy, we formed a group of a dozen people who liked to get together on club trips to ride together and share good times and moments of conviviality.
In 2024, we were together in Lozère, where he was able to climb his 1,000th mountain pass with great emotion. It was a memorable moment, with plenty to drink on the road and at the finish....
In 2025, we had a great time together in Tuscany, at Marina di Massa, where he had opted for a motorbike to continue his route and his quest for the passes with his friends.
Guy was easy-going, always in a good mood, and always accepted our suggestions for routes with enthusiasm and... a bit of humour.
Next June we were due to meet up again for a holiday with friends in the Ardèche, and Guy was looking forward to it.
Sadly, we're going to miss Guy and we won't be able to forget him on our next mountain climbs.
Farewell, my friend.

Hello everyone,
It is with great emotion that we learn of the death of Guy Chaurin, a lovely person who never missed an opportunity to make a joke. It was always a great pleasure to meet him again during a holiday or at a general meeting.
We met Guy during our Tour de France US Métro, when he spontaneously came to meet us near Cambo les Bains on the Route des Cimes during the Tardets-Sorholus / Capbreton stage. He then guided us masterfully through Bayonne and across the Adour river, followed by a great moment of sharing and conviviality on the terrace at Capbreton. Guy, we will always remember this wonderful day in your company. Farewell friend

How many Cent Cols trips have Guy and I been on? The last time was in Autrans last October for the Club's general meeting. As always, you made people feel at home with your stories and anecdotes, always with a touch of humour that was your trademark. The trip where we rubbed shoulders most closely was undoubtedly the one to the Basque country in 2015, organised by Alain Dabé: firstly because the group was small, and secondly because you took great pleasure in showing us around your adopted country and making us love it.
If my wheels ever take me to the Rhune again, your spirit will certainly be with us.
Farewell Guy

Hello everyone.
Guy went to the cycling pantheon yesterday afternoon. His children and grandchildren were there, speaking or playing the flute. Guy had a thousand lives before finishing his «race» in Labenne. I was very moved when I read Christophe Badonnel's message on behalf of the Cent Cols. The small room at the Dax crematorium was almost too small to welcome his cyclos friends from Labenne/Capbreton...
Have a lovely day and take care of yourself.
A lot of sadness. Between 2010 and 2019 a few outings together with the bucoliques group.
