DE-BW Black Forest Schiltach east - Gravel 50 km, D+ 1580 m, 7 passes

Author description

Author Jean-Luc Ceccato
Course To be carried out on 13 September 2020
Departure Schiltach: several free car parks, including one along the Kinzig at the junction of Hauptstraße and Auestraße. Alt: 330 m.
For accommodation, I recommend the Gasthof Zum Weyßen Rößle. Rosemarie Wolber is very friendly and speaks French. The food is very good.

Tourist information

As you pass through the villages, you'll see the carefully decorated houses that are so typical of this mid-mountain region. There are numerous viewpoints along the way.

Technical specifications

This route presents no difficulties and was covered with a mountain bike fitted with 40 gravel tyres, without any problems. Around 50% of the route is on nice rolling paths, with the rest on tarmac roads.
Warning: the access to Passhöhe Eckte DE-BW-0689c is very steep for 1.8 km, sometimes approaching 20%.
The access to the final Sattelebene pass DE-BW-0590a has an easy push section of around 300m. Unlike the piste, you climb up and down on the same descent path.
