Beautiful views of Montségur castle from the Pas du Roc pass.
In the Aude Pyrenees, the Pays de Sault is made up of a high plateau at an altitude of over 1,000 m, offering magnificent panoramic views of the Ariège Pyrenees. The area is dotted with numerous caves containing traces of prehistoric occupation, some of them decorated with parietal engravings (not open to the public). In the village of Belvis (see route FR-11 Col de Coudons) there are contemporary frescoes, which repeat some of the drawings.
Le Pays de Sault is also renowned for its potato crops.
If you only have one day, I'd recommend one of these two routes, starting from the village of Belcaire or Espezel.

Technical specifications

Cyclable at 97%, and accessible by gravel, this is a very fine route with a first section of beautiful forest passages followed by a long stretch on the Sault plateau that presents no major difficulties.
