Tourist information

In the Aude Pyrenees, the Pays de Sault is made up of a high plateau at an altitude of over 1,000 m, offering magnificent panoramic views of the Ariège Pyrenees. Numerous caves with traces of prehistoric occupation, some decorated with parietal engravings, are scattered throughout the area (not open to the public). The village of Belvis is home to the La Cauna cave a museum in the village is dedicated to it, where objects found during the excavations are on display.
Some of the village walls are decorated with frescoes that reproduce the parietal inscriptions found in certain caves in the department, as well as those from Bernard Romain painter who created a giant fresco at the entrance to the village in 2023: an allegorical historical fresco on the history of Catharism in Occitania.

Technical specifications

Cyclable at 95%, this beautiful route winds its way on and around the Plateau de Sault, with many forest passages.
