FR-2A La pointe de la Parata-Ajaccio - Road 40 km, D+ 750 m, 3 passes
Author description
Author Bernard Giraudeau
Course : completed in 2023
Departure At the car park opposite Ajaccio marine cemetery on the D111.
Tourist information
This short route first takes in the road to the Sanguinaires Islands, the D111, to head towards the Pointe de la Parata, a classified ‶Grand Site de France″. Here you'll find the Genoese tower of La Parata and a magnificent view of the nearby Sanguinaires Islands.
Passing through Bocca Canareccia, you reach the agricultural plain of Capo di Feno and the shores of the Minaccia cove, first at Petit Capo and then at Grand Capo.
The route returns to Ajaccio via the Col Saint-Antoine. After crossing the Salario hillock, the descent opens up views of the Gravona valley and the high peaks of Corsica's central range. The descent continues, overlooking the town and the Gulf. All that remains is to return to the starting point by following the shoreline along the route to the Sanguinaires Islands once again.
Technical specifications
The roads are of good quality but can be narrow towards Petit and Grand Capo.
Car traffic remains concentrated on the outskirts of the town, which is quickly crossed on the way down, before becoming much quieter on the other parts of the route... depending on the season.
There is a stretch of road at 15 % as you climb towards Bocca di Canareccia and one at 12 % before the Col Saint-Antoine.
Be careful: the access to Bocca di Vignola (750 m) is via a good cycle path, especially for gravel, as the rest of the route is by road.
The wide pavement on the road to the Sanguinaires islands, on the shoreline side, is authorised for bicycles, but at a speed and with attention to detail compatible with pedestrians.
