FR-70 Rassemblement Grand Est 2023 - Road 51 km, D+ 1480 m, 2cols

Author description

Author : Philippe Pillet

Course made on 27 May 2023

Departure Car park: Located in the commune of Plancher les Mines, at the impasse du canal (turn right into the rue du pont du Var, the car park is on the left after the small bridge). Alt: 500 m

Tourist description

The route passes through the highest commune in the Vosges mountains, Belfahy, and continues towards Miellin. The valley of Melisey (Thibaud Pinot's village) boasts a beautiful 12th-century Romanesque church, and runs alongside the Plateau des 1000 Étangs, which deserves an extra day to explore. The ascent of the Col de la Chevestraye passes through Fresse, a village typical of the Vosges Saônoises region. The final part of the route has become historic, as the Planche des Filles has been climbed 6 times by the men's Tour de France and has become a must-do.

Technical description

The section of road between Belfahy and Miellin is very steep and uneven. The D486 is quite busy, which suggests that the route is going in the opposite direction. The percentages at La Planche are in the record books at over 20 % (24 % in the final).
