Hubert Marin

CC 1699 Hubert Marin died at the end of December 2025

Hubert Marin passed away a few days before Christmas, in his 88th year. He and his wife, Anne-Marie, left the club a few years ago, but still made a few outings of their own on VAE.
A former factory worker in Ugine, he had been retired for 37 years... and we made the most of it! Hubert had made a huge contribution to the club, in every sense of the word. A volunteer for decades, he was our treasurer for more than ten years, until 1992. After serving as vice-chairman for two years, he returned to his beloved accounts and clothing stock, becoming deputy treasurer from 1995 to 2008. Thirty years in the club's office: a great commitment!

But Hubert was also an exceptional, hard-working cyclist. In 1979, he was named «best cyclist» of the year (at a time when we were rigorously counting points for outings to external clubs!) But Hubert had an even more exceptional driving force: his wife, Anne-Marie. They were together at the club, together in the treasury, together to manage our outfits. And together to pass passes. They joined the Cent Cols club in 1982 (he with the n° 1699, she with the n° 1700), and got into the game together. As soon as they retired, they climbed the rankings, taking advantage of their new-found free time to scour the mountain ranges of France and beyond. No one knows how, but Anne-Marie took a slight lead over Hubert before their thousandth col, a lead she held to the end! They already had 2000 passes before the 1997 federal week, which kept us busy. The 3000th was passed in 2002, the 4000th in 2006 and the 5000th in 2014, at the age of 76... Hubert sometimes grumbled, but we had to keep up, hoping to come and rest in his house in Venthon, with a garden and apple trees to tend...
The club offers its sincere condolences to Anne-Marie, their daughters Sylvie and Corinne, and their grandchildren.

I can still see them with their little caravan, criss-crossing Spain without a GPS, everything on the map ... A different time but the same devouring passion. .
