Jean WEIL (1948-2023)
Cent Cols n° 7187 since 2011
Jean was our president and above all our friend. He made the ASUC, his club at heart, into a big family, something special; everyone, whether cyclist, cyclo or accompanying person, was able to contribute a precious stone to this building in perpetual construction: a Sagrada Familia of sorts. On 11 September 2023, he embarked on his ultimate epic.
-A forester by trade and by conviction, he defended his "Forest" with strength, enthusiasm and tenacity throughout his life.
- Immersed as a child in the heroic atmosphere of the Tours de France of yesteryear, fascinated by the exploits of Coppi, Anquetil and Bahamontès, he fell in love with the little queen forever.
-An alpine hunter during his military service, he developed a taste for effort, friendship and ... the mountains.
An avid cross-country skier (culminating in an unforgettable Vasalopett) and full-back for the football club in his Alsatian village of Uhrwiller, where he was Deputy Mayor for many years, he repeatedly demonstrated his qualities as a competitor, a team player and a team player.
Naturally, by juxtaposing these rich experiences, he devoted himself to Cyclotourism, turning it into a way of life, a philosophy, a focus for countless adventures, always shared.
Jean Weil was an eclectic cyclist. He and his wife Joëlle each climbed more than 1,000 mountain passes! With AS Uhrwiller Cyclo, they roamed all the unusual corners of France and the rooftops of Europe. From long-distance rides to daily challenges, from the Tour of Flanders to Paris-Roubaix, from the Amstel Gold Race to Liège-Bastogne-Liège, from the Dolomites to the five major French mountain ranges, from Austria to Spain, not forgetting Switzerland, Luxembourg or Germany, from Thonon to Trieste or Antibes, they have proudly worn the green ASUC colours. On their mountain bikes, accompanied by their friends, they gobbled up all the mule passes in the Vosges, from the Outre-Forêt to the Ballons.
Jean, we won't miss you because you're with us, you'll always be our guide.
