This collar is an opportunity to expand our lexicon of equivalents for the word "collar".
"Gaule, Golaz, Goléron, Golèse, Golet, Goletta, Golette, Gollet, Gollettaz, Goulaz, Goule, Goulet, Gueulaz, Gueule
Narrow passage, pass, couloir, avalanche corridor, gorge. Patois gola, gaula, mouth, opening, mountain gorge, Old French goule, gosier, mouth, Latin gula, gosier, throat. "
The term "Gueule" can mean "pass" as well as "corridor" or "gorge". The topography of the area must therefore confirm the presence of a pass. In the case of "la Gueule à vent", there is no doubt that the pass is perfectly defined in the landscape.
Of particular note: the GUEULAZ pass near the Emosson dam (on the French-Swiss border), listed in the "Catalogue des cols de Suisse et du Liechtenstein" (CH-VS-1965) (see "The shop" section).
