Saturday 22 June 2024, Dauphiné

Collet d'Hérans (FR-38-0934), just above the commune of Mens in the Triève region
You will be welcomed and treated to a drink from 10.30am to 2.00pm.
There are two routes: a mountain bike/gravel route and a road route. 1700 to 1800m of D+ each
But beware: the Trièves is treacherous, and while the average gradients may seem reasonable, the false flats alternate with steep sections (10-12% on roads and 15-25% on tracks and paths). So be economical.... If they seem arduous, you can always cut back...
Road : 85 km, 1700 m, 11 passes (driving after the rally)
Departure from the Clelles Mens station car park, on the edge of the main road near Clelles, from 8.30 a.m.
No trains will be arriving as the line is closed for works.
Recommended direction: the direction of the trace, to save the bulk for the afternoon.
On the way back, we take the RN for just under 500m: be careful! (There is an RF to avoid this, but small tyres will certainly not stand up to it). Daredevils who stay on the RN to avoid the 30m of D+ at Clelles do so at their own risk.
MOUNTAIN BIKING :
Departure: Col du Fau car park (at the end of the A48 Grenoble - Sisteron motorway at the Monestier de Clermont exit) at around 8.30am.
No trains will be arriving as the line is closed for works.
The tracks are provided in the form of 3 links (from a bicycle chain...) that each hundred passes can follow as it wishes (and therefore combine as it wishes on its GPS), even if one direction is recommended for each (in a loop from the meeting point, a fourth link 100% route is provided for the bulimics).
Please note: there are no water points except at St Jean d'Hérans (at the foot of the meeting point), at the Cornillon cemetery and at Trefford (the track will take you there) on the return journey.
Link 1: 6 passes - 16km - 400m D+ climb
Take the roundabout towards Monestier, then just after towards Roissard
and just beyond, opposite the war memorial, the track that climbs the embankment.
Or go down to Monestier by road and do it the other way round (be careful of the time and the D+ if you want to be at the meeting point between 11 and 2pm).
Link 2: 5 passes - 20km - 600m D+; to be completed in the direction provided:
This descent (400m D-) via the Pas du Berlioz between the RF and the footbridge is S1 or S2 compared with S4 in the other direction.
After the first few passes on the track, when you start to descend along the path and come to an EDF meter box in the middle of the woods, take a sharp left on the ridge between the grave and the continuation of the path. You'll find a track further on.
The descent to the Berlioz footpath takes place under the explanatory sign in front of the private gate at the end of the RF. Once there, 10m below the sign, follow the path (signposted VTT 34) to the footbridge. Poor GPS reception.
Link 3:  5 passes - 26 k - 800m D+; best done in the direction provided:
The ascent was made by pushing at the same pace as the many possible hikers in both directions (for example, in April, I met 60 hikers going up, so in June...).
The arrival at the meeting point via the track has too random a start and a higher D+ than the route via the road to be worth taking.
Openrunner indicates a track between the Col des Accarias and the Col du Thaud, but this is not the case, and in June the crops will prevent any passage, hence the use of the departmental road.
Similarly, the stretch of ridge between Cornillon and Lavars is much more cycleable in this sense.
The descent between the hauts de Lavars (hill 771) and the pont du Brion is pure mountain biking, steep and greasy (leaves), 100% greasy pushing in the other direction. Cyclists without mountain bikes can use the road...
Watch out for the many crossings of the departmental road, as you'll come across them unexpectedly.
Link 4: 3 passes - 13km - 300m D+; 100% route from meeting point
