Spring break in Todtmoos (Black Forest) from 19 to 26 May 2023
Enrico Alberini and the IT and travel managers contributed to this page presenting the trip.
COVID 19 constraints
Constraints may change between now and the start of your stay. There are currently no restrictions on double occupancy.
The prices negotiated by the Club with accommodation providers are based on a double room and two single rooms at an additional cost.
For the first time, the Club is organising a trip to Germany. We'll be staying in Todtmoos, a community in Baden-Württemberg in the Black Forest. The tours will be spread out around this base. With the exception of one tour, which will take 50 minutes, they will all require a few dozen minutes' drive.
Todtmoos is a paradise for Nordic walkers, hikers and mountain bikers, with numerous hiking trails leading to magnificent viewpoints.
We will be staying in three establishments located very close to each other.

Introduction to the region
For the first time, the spring break will be organised across the Rhine, in the Black Forest.
Located in Baden-Württemberg, one of Germany's largest federal states with over 10 million inhabitants, the Black Forest is a mountainous massif 140 km long and 60 km wide. It covers more than 6,000 km². It is bordered by France to the west and Switzerland to the south.
The Black Forest is best known for its typical farmhouses with half-moon roofs, its Black Forest cakes, its Black Forest ham, its gnomes, its kirsch (kirschwasser) and its cuckoo clocks.
In Todtmoos, the original Todtmooser Lebküchler (gingerbread) is made according to an old recipe from 1900, which comes from the local history museum.
In those days, Todtmooser Lebküchler were also known as "pilgrim's bread", because they were given to pilgrims as a small meal on the way home after a long prayer. Even today, honey-rich, vegan Todtmooser Lebküchler are a welcome refreshment on a hike.
Todtmoos was first mentioned in a document dated 1267. At that time, there were only a few huts and a chapel of Our Lady.
An ancient legend tells of the founding of Todtmoos. In 1255, the Virgin Mary appeared to Dietrich, a priest from Rickenbach, and asked him to become a hermit at Schönenbühl, between the Wehra river and the Totenbach stream, cut down a tree and build a chapel. Dietrich followed the order and the site soon became a place of pilgrimage. The Abbey of St Blaise acquired the site in 1319, and the number of pilgrims increased considerably.
Todtmoos is located in the south of the Alps. Black Forest in the high Wehratal . The municipal area comprises 13 districts and covers an altitude of 700 m above sea level. level of the sea in the Wehratal up to a height of 1263 m at Hochkopf . Todtmoos borders the Hotzenwald . Freiburg and Basel are about 50 km away. Regular buses from Südbadenbus connect Todtmoos with Bad Säckingen, St. Blasien, Rickenbach and Todtnau.
Tours
The road routes were designed and mapped out by Alain Brault. The mountain bike trails were mapped out by Christophe Badonnel, using tracks supplied by Arsène Bickel, who initiated the project in the Black Forest.
Every day, from Saturday to Thursday, a road circuit and a mountain bike circuit will be on offer, some with variations.

Note from the Board of Directors
If you are arranging your own accommodation elsewhere, please register and subscribe to the "organisation costs package" for 4 reasons:
- So that everyone contributes to the costs of preparing and organising the stay (other than accommodation)
- To be able to correctly size joint events (information sessions, welcome and farewell parties).
- To be able to split up into several groups on the routes to improve safety for everyone.
- To help organisers deal with any unforeseen events.
Registrations
The cost of a stay is not limited to simply booking rooms and meals. In addition to these services, which are billed by the establishment (or establishments) where we are staying, there are many other expenses. For example, very often the accommodation provider will also charge us for the room or rooms made available to us (for parking bikes, for the shop, a large room with sound equipment for presentations, drinks and speeches, etc.).by default...
To sum up:
- If you want full-board accommodation, choose the €525 package and add the €21 "organisation costs package" = €546;
- If you only want the evening meals, choose the package at €129 and add the "organisation costs package" at €21 = €150;
- If you are arranging your own accommodation and catering, choose the "organisation costs package" at €21;
- If you take out Gritchen insurance, the amount is 2.34 % of the amount of the benefits, with a minimum of 8 euros for a single person and 16 euros for a couple.
- If you are not a member of the FFCT, add the compulsory insurance at €7 per person;
- If you are an associate member, you are exempt from the organisation fee;
- If you are a couple, one of whom is an associate member who is not a member of the FFCT, and you wish to take out Gritchen insurance, you choose 2 packages at €525, 1 package for organisational costs at €21, i.e. €1071, add the Gritchen insurance 2.34×1071=€25.07 (which is higher than the minimum of €16) and the non-FFCT insurance at €7, i.e. a total of €1103.07.
- If you would like a small group to stay in the same hotel, please mention this separately. We will do our best to accommodate you;
- Given the specific nature of the sleeping arrangements (two mattresses in a double bed), for people coming alone, registrations that do not mention the person with whom they are sharing the room will not be taken into account.
Further information will be posted later on the website, which you can consult regularly. Each time, the person in charge of holidays will post an e-mail on the discussion list.
If you would like to receive these emails, we invite you to join the discussion list (if you haven't already done so).
To register, download the PDF registration form from the link below and follow the instructions therein.

- Todtmoos Registration Form
You can leaf through the Brochure which will be distributed during your stay and which, in addition to the welcome messages, contains information about the region and how to get there, information about safety and detailed descriptions of the tours.
And of course, the trombinoscope, which isn't so new any more:
When we meet up at trips (and other events), we meet a lot of friends and acquaintances, but we're not sure we know everyone's name, and we don't always dare admit it or ask. To try to remedy this, as we announced at the Bédoin AGM, we are displaying, alongside the route maps, a simple trombinoscope of those present, with the photo, name and membership number of all those who have sent us (either beforehand, or with their registration for the trip) their photo and authorisation to publish it on the trombinoscope page of the Club's website.
You can send a digital photo of your face alone seen head-on and without a helmet in the form of JPG file of good definition and quality, with a width/height ratio of ¾, clearly mentioning your name and membership number, to photodemembre@centcols.orgor directly at sejours@centcols.org who will pass on the information.
Make sure you tick the yes or no box on the registration form, depending on whether you accept or not. If no box is ticked, the answer will be deemed negative. If you have already sent a photo for the Club's trombinoscope or for a previous holiday, you do not need to send it again; you will be systematically included in the holiday's trombinoscope.

Participants' opinions - verbatim from the discussion list
The trip to Todtmoos went perfectly. Well done GOs and we're looking forward to the next one in Praz-sur-Arly!
My report is available at the following address http://jmlevelo.fr/cols/cent_cols_todtmoos.html
Jean-Pierre MONZIE - CCC6596

Fred Singla - CCC 5173
It's when you see such a magnificent report that you realise you shouldn't miss the CC meetings, where conviviality, camaraderie and superb discoveries are the rule.
Well done, Fred, and thank you for your fine work compiling the photos.
Jacques Bezzola - CC 3842
It was a great pleasure to see this magnificent report. I have just relived some great moments with you on 22 and 23 May.
Thank you, Fred, for sharing this excellent memory with us in these superb photos with commentary.
Patrick Rossignol
Alain and I returned from our rescheduled trip to Todtmoos on Monday evening and would like to offer our warmest congratulations to the organisers of this trip, and in particular Christophe and Jean-Luc.
Thanks to the combination of road and mountain bike routes on offer, we were able to do all the road passes, plus a good proportion of the mountain bike passes. It's true that the superb quality of the roads and tracks made it easy to do them on a randonneuse or gravel bike, especially as we enjoyed some very fine days from Friday to Monday.
So a total of 80 new passes were climbed, in 6 outings, for a total of around 500 kilometres and 10,500 metres of ascent.
Thanks also to Christophe for recommending the Zimmerman Café, where we were able to take advantage of the 100-collar rate for the 3 dinners at the Maien; well done.
We have some great memories of this stay and even in 4 evenings and 3 days we were able to meet up with many of our friends and make new acquaintances.
Alain and JF Gouhier
I got back from Todtmoos yesterday with a good crop of passes, and I'll have fond memories of this trip: magnificent scenery, sumptuous trails and a route that alternated between gentle slopes and some tough climbs. The hotel (at least the Waldwinkel) was comfortable and offered a varied menu.
Thank you to the organisers and all those who helped make this trip a success.
See you soon in Praz.
Benoît CLAIRE
A big thank you to the organisers of the trip, great routes, beautiful scenery, good atmosphere, top organisation and, to finish, the icing on the cake (Black Forest), the Planche des belles filles.
Bruno Vienet
A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this great stay in the Black Forest, Christophe and Jean-Luc in particular. The staff, of course.
Great atmosphere, beautiful courses and impeccable organisation.
I'd like to thank my friends in Annecy, with whom I rode and shared some great moments.
Thanks also to Enrico's team and Fred, Polo, Robert, Jean-Pierre, Jean-Yves, Bruno and Philippe for accepting me for 2 mountain bike tours. The almost 'miraculous' didn't do too badly and that reassures me for the future.
Polo, I warded off the bad luck that was befalling me. Careful though...
I'm delighted with my stay and look forward to seeing you again. For some of you on the PBP ...
Patrick Rossignol
It was a holiday, not a concentration, but the remote start circuits and the V1 and V2 were all the rage.
We made the R5 in the land of the Volkswagen, and the V6 in the kingdom of the flat 6!
Enough of the more or less dubious humour, here are the thanks, as at Cannes (Oliver):
- Special thanks to my driver Alain who transported me in his Benz (Kangoo in fact),
- And thanks to the Alain + Alain + Jacques + Claude team for their great patience with me on the climbs.
- My apologies to the same team for a few oversights on my part...
- Thank you to the organisers and especially to the designers of these magnificent circuits.
Der Schwarzwald ist wunderbar.
I'll be back. (Oh dear, that was in the Pacific)
Biki
For once, I'd like to take the liberty of posting a message on the mailing list simply to thank the organisers of the trips.
It's always a real pleasure to take part. Each time, the reunions are warm and full of good humour. New links are forged...
For 'non-pedalantes' such as myself, these trips combine sightseeing and hiking in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
So, once again, many thanks.
Monique Guillaud-Bachet.
Black is black......

Black Forest
Inky skies (like the one currently hanging over our heads in AVIGNON)
Fortunately, Todtmoos gave us a run for our money.
Sunshine and 24/25° or fog and 8°.
Flat roads with heavy traffic or forest roads with no living souls, from steep climbs at 4/5 km/h to descents at 80.
Staggering gradients of almost 20% on the way up and 30% on the way down (on rock, no less).
In short, there was something for everyone.
From road passes to mule passes (around sixty in all for us).
Beautiful, relaxing scenery (valleys, lakes and waterfalls...) and always the same friendly atmosphere, whether on the road or over a cold pilsner.
Given the queues at the supermarket checkout, beer will continue to flow freely on both sides of France.
Thanks once again to all the organisers and track-setters.
I've just been to Praz, where I expect you to be at the end of August. It was 22°C at 9 o'clock in the morning and the sun was shining. Let's keep our fingers crossed that it will be the same when you come.
I'll be back next Friday for a few passes between Salève and Glières. So if you see us, we'd be delighted to ride with you.
Didier REMOND - DT01
We made it back home to the Lot et Garonne on Sunday with a temperature of 28°C and a fine thunderstorm to water the garden.
A fine stay, not always summery, but without getting wet thanks to our team's meteorologists.
Thanks to the organisers and to Christophe, who lent me his gravel bike to ride the improved R3.
81 passes on the tour + 15 outside the tour, particularly at Planche des Belles Filles.
See you soon on other trips (Bernardini, BCMF des Vosges du Sud, Praz-sur Arly).
